Today it is time to leave Adelaide behind to explore more of what South Australia has to offer.

First stop of the day is Mt Lofty lookout, where you get superb views of Adelaide and it’s surroundings down below.

From Mt Lofty it’s a short drive to The Cedars, the gallery and studio of one of Australia’s most famous artists Hans Heysen and his daughter Nora Heysen, which is nestled deep in the Adelaide Hills. A self-guided tour of the Studio, Coach House and Gardens is included.

From The Cedars it’s a quick hop to Hahndorf, a very popular and quaint old German settlement. Explore the many shops, try some local produce and enjoy a typical German lunch and/or beverage.

After your free time in Hahndorf it’s time to head south, it’s a 3.5 hour drive to Robe, which will take you through the stunning Coorong NP. The drive will be broken up with a stop at Parnka Point, the narrowest point between the northern and southern Coorong lagoon, where you often can see wading birds and Pelicans in the shallow and sheltered bays nearby.

Once in Robe, check-in at our centrally located hotel in one of South Australia’s most beautiful towns. Enjoy a group dinner in town (included) that evening.

Today we explore all the highlights the southern part of South Australia has to offer. Mt Gambier has a rich volcanic history, so it’s no surprise we will exploring old volcanic craters, the Blue Lake and a sink hole, Umpherston Sinkhole (Sunken Garden).

From Mt Gambier you will head straight through the famous Coonawarra wine region on your way to the Naracoorte Caves. Enjoy an included wine tasting and lunch at Wynns Cellar Door.

After lunch we head to the World Heritage listed Naracoorte Caves, well known for their extensive amounts of Mega Fauna fossils, which helped paint the picture of what life would have been like during the times these magnificent creatures were alive.

A guided tour of the Victoria Fossil Cave (1hr) is included and will explain why Naracoorte Caves are so important. About 400m of this cave has a developed pathway and constructed stairs. There are about 50 steps into the cave and a steep sloping path out of it, but the walk is relatively easy.

From Naracoorte Caves it’s a 1.5hr drive back to Robe. Enjoy a dinner at your own leisure in Robe, while you explore more of this quaint fishing town.

Accommodation: Robe Central, Robe

Meals: Breakfast

Today it’s time to head north along the stunning Coorong NP coastline. A long drive in the morning is rewarded with a cruise (3.5hrs) taking you deep into the Coorong, to the mouth of the Murray River and into ‘Storm Boy’ country.

From Goolwa the cruise heads downstream, where you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch onboard. Lookout out for a few lazy fur-seals as you travel through the lock chamber. Then meander along the waterways of the Coorong, following the last kilometres of the mighty Murray River to the Murray Mouth and its opening to the Southern Ocean. Pass the quaint fishing village of the Coorong Shacks before pulling up onto the beach for an optional guided walk through the dunes, Indigenous Midden site, rich cultural interpretation and bush-tucker trail to the infamous 90-Mile Beach and the roaring Southern Ocean.

Learn the “Coorong Shuffle’ and dig for Pipi’s on the beach before returning back to the vessel and continuing the cruise past Storm Boy filming sites and towering dunes. Afternoon Tea is served on the meandering return journey to Goolwa.
