    This tour of Cairns and Queensland’s tropical north is the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation. Enjoy a journey into the ancient rainforests, see waterfalls and pristine rivers saving time enough for some R&R by the pool, and a spot of snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef.

    There are many highlights on this tour, and basing ourselves out of the resort town of Cairns, you will instantly feel “on holidays”.

    Arrive at your leisure at the Bay Village Tropical Retreat in Cairns, which is perfectly positioned in the city centre, just a few minutes’ walkaway from the best Cairns has to offer.

    Note: Due to luggage size restrictions for days 5-7, you will be issued a duffel bag, and your larger suitcase can be stored at the hotel while we head north into gulf country.

    Morning pick up and transfer to the nearby Skyrail station, where you will board the 7.5km cableway that connects Cairns to the picturesque mountain village of Kuranda. Embark on a fascinating journey over and deep into Australia’s Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Enjoy a truly unique perspective of this ancient landscape; glide metres above the pristine jungle canopy before descending to explore the rainforest close up. On arrival in Kuranda, enjoy time at leisure to explore this fascinating village. Discover the famous Kuranda Markets and village shopping, rainforest walks and plenty of wildlife experiences, tours and attractions. Kuranda has many restaurants and cafes, where outdoor dining is one of the joys of our cooler mountain climate. Kuranda is a delightful mix of quirky surprises, colourful characters and natural beauty, perched at the top of a rainforest clad mountain. Mid afternoon you will be picked up from Kuranda and transferred back to the hotel.

    Today you have time to explore this tropical paradise at your own leisure and as the adventure capital of the north there are also plenty of exciting activities to do.

    If you are after a more relaxed day, why not pack some swimmers and head to the saltwater swimming lagoon on the Esplanade and enjoy some of the many bars and restaurants in the area.

    For those looking to go a bit further, why not join a First Nations Guide on the Hands On Country Eco tour. Glide across Trinity Inlet past tethered yachts and wetlands into the expanse of the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef region. Arrive at Hills Creek, where the salty sea meets mountain freshwater for a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony. Walk the Mayi Bugan Rainforest Trail to discover native foods and bush medicines, ancient Aboriginal traditions, customs and artefacts. Enjoy a light refreshment before returning to the Marina.

    Today you will be spending the day on and in the water. A transfer between your hotel and the wharf (and back) is included (times to be advised). Reef Magic operates cruise day trips direct from Cairns to the Reef Magic activity pontoon located on the outer Great Barrier Reef. The all-weather Reef Magic pontoon caters for all activity levels, and is the newest pontoon on the Great Barrier Reef, launched in early April 2022. Snorkel in the sheltered coral lagoon, join their Marine Biologist on a Guided Snorkel Safari, try Scuba Diving or even Sea Trek Helmet Diving. If simply relaxing & soaking up the tropical warmth is more your style then take time out on the spacious sundeck.     This morning meet your tour leader and head out on your small group 4WD tour and travel along the dusty Bloomfield Track, with the Barrier Reef just offshore. Travel up the Coral Coast via Port Douglas, cross the mighty Daintree River and enjoy the river cruise, where you might encounter saltwater crocodiles, take in the tree giants and mangroves near Cape Tribulation in the UNESCO listed Daintree National Park and cross the Bloomfield River Bridge. In the afternoon, arrive at the 4 star Sovereign Resort Hotel, which will be your accommodation for the next two nights.

    After breakfast, head out to enjoy another day exploring this fascinating area. The view from Grassy Hill over the Endeavour River and the Coral Sea is breathtaking. A short drive brings you to picturesque Quarantine Beach. In the afternoon visit the interesting James Cook Museum if open (own expense, seasonal opening days), a heritage listed former convent school. After a stroll along the foreshore return to the hotel for some relaxation.

    Today depart your wilderness oasis and travel back to Cairns on the inland route. Stop for some Aboriginal rock paintings and stencils near Laura and enjoy the beauty of the hinterland.

    Cancellation Policy

    • 85 days or more, you will be refunded all monies paid, less a $50 administration fee.
    • 42 to 84 days prior to departure, you will lose your deposit
    • 28 to 41 days: 25% of full tour cost
    • 14 to 27 days: 50% of full tour cost
    • less than 14 days: 100% of full tour cost, no refund
